Add Spinrun to Microsoft Teams

How an IT admin adds Spinrun to Microsoft Teams before it is in the Teams store.

Spinrun isn't in the Teams store yet, so an organisation adds it as a custom app. These steps are for a Teams administrator, and take about ten minutes. Each person then links their own Microsoft account in Spinrun.

1. Allow custom apps

In the Teams admin center, open Teams apps → Manage apps, choose Actions → Org-wide app settings, and turn on custom apps. If your organisation already allows them, skip this step.

2. Upload Spinrun

Download the Spinrun app package (a .zip holding the manifest and two icons). In Manage apps, choose Upload new app and pick the .zip. Then open Spinrun in the list and make sure its status is Allowed.

3. Optionally, pin it for everyone

Under Teams apps → Setup policies, edit the policy your people use, and add Spinrun under Installed apps and Pinned apps. People can also add it themselves from Apps once it is allowed.

People link their Microsoft account to Spinrun with Continue with Microsoft, through an app called Spinrun sign-in. It asks only for openid profile, but many organisations require an admin to approve any new app first, and until then people see "Need admin approval".

Grant consent as a Global, Cloud Application or Application Administrator. You come back to this page with the result.

Or do it in the Microsoft Entra admin center: Enterprise applications → Spinrun sign-in → Permissions → Grant admin consent. Spinrun sign-in appears there once someone in your organisation has tried to sign in with it.

5. Updates

When we publish a new package, download it from the same link, then open Manage apps → Spinrun and choose Update with the new .zip. Teams applies it only when the manifest's version is higher than the one you have.

6. What it can access

The Teams app asks for no Microsoft Graph permissions and no resource-specific (RSC) permissions. The bot sees only the messages people send to it, and the sign-in app learns only who the person is. What Spinrun does with that is in the privacy policy and the terms.

For the people using it

Open Settings → Microsoft Teams in Spinrun and choose Continue with Microsoft to link your work account. Then choose Open Spinrun in Teams, which opens a chat with Spinrun once your organisation has added it, or find Spinrun under Apps.

If something is blocked, collect the message Teams or Microsoft shows and the approximate time, and contact support. Never send passwords or access tokens.
