Spinrun

Spinrun vs OpenClaw

OpenClaw is an open-source personal AI assistant you install and run on your own machine or server. Spinrun runs your agents for you, on a private, isolated machine in the cloud.

Last reviewed , against each product’s public pricing and docs.

The short answer

Pick OpenClaw if you want free, MIT-licensed software you can read and modify, local models on your own hardware, and you are happy to keep a machine on and harden it: its foundation “sells nothing: no paid tier, no hosted service, no token.” Pick Spinrun if you want the same autonomy without hosting or securing anything, with approvals, ready-made agents and a board your team can read.

Choose OpenClaw if

  • You want free, open-source software you can read and modify
  • You want the assistant inside your messaging apps
  • You want to run local models on your own hardware, through Ollama or LM Studio

Choose Spinrun if

  • You do not want an agent with shell access on your own laptop
  • You do not want to keep a machine on, patched and hardened for it
  • Teammates should use the agents without anyone administering a gateway
  • You want apps connected from the browser, not configured by hand

Side by side

Spinrun vs OpenClaw at a glance.

OpenClaw is an assistant you install, host and secure, and its foundation sells nothing. Spinrun agents do the same jobs from an isolated machine we run for you.

Where it runs
A machine you keep on, your computer or a server. The foundation “sells nothing: no paid tier, no hosted service, no token”.
On a private, isolated machine in the cloud, kept on and updated for you.
Isolation
Sandboxing and exec approvals ship with it but are off by default, so until you harden it its tools reach the files and the shell of the machine it runs on.
Each workspace gets its own virtual machine, apart from your laptop and from other customers.
Upkeep
Updates, uptime and security advisories are yours to follow, with a security audit command to catch the drift.
Nothing to patch, upgrade or keep awake.
Your team
Personal by default. A team shares a gateway someone hosts, and one gateway is one trust domain: people who should not trust each other need one each.
A workspace in the browser: invite teammates at no extra cost, share agents, answer their questions.
Apps
Skills and plugins you install and configure.
3,000+ apps from the browser, plus any MCP server.

Automate a task

Set up approvals

In OpenClaw, “sandboxing and exec approvals are off by default”, so its tools reach the files and the shell of the machine it runs on until you harden it. Each Spinrun workspace runs on its own isolated virtual machine, and agents stop before anything risky and wait for your approval in the app.

A team, without a gateway to run

See how it learns

An OpenClaw team shares a gateway someone hosts, and one gateway is one trust domain: people who should not trust each other need one each. On Spinrun, invite teammates at no extra cost, share agents and watch every run on a live board, with memory that sharpens the agent after each correction.

FAQ

Spinrun vs OpenClaw, your questions.

Is Spinrun a hosted OpenClaw alternative?

Yes. Spinrun gives you autonomous agents without installing anything: each one runs on your private machine in the cloud, with approvals, memory and a live board.

Is OpenClaw safe to run on my computer?

Sandboxing and exec approvals are off by default in OpenClaw, so unless you configure them its tools have shell and file access on the machine it runs on; there is a security audit command to check for drift, and the project publishes advisories you need to follow. Spinrun agents run on an isolated machine instead of your laptop and pause for approval before anything consequential.

Can I use my own model with Spinrun, like with OpenClaw?

Yes. Bring your own API key or your Claude or ChatGPT sign-in, or use the models Spinrun hosts. Local models on your own hardware, through Ollama or LM Studio, are where OpenClaw has the edge.

Does Spinrun need a terminal?

No. Everything happens in the browser: create the agent, describe its job, connect your apps.

Is Spinrun open source?

No. Spinrun is a hosted product.
